scenarios ACTION

① Skrull Invasion → You're on planet Earth and the Skrull are coming! Are you ready to fight? Perhaps the better question is...are you really sure your friends are who you think they are?
② Sparring → There's few better ways to see what you're made of than to face off against your fellow heroes! Enter the sparring ring and give it all you've got. Or perhaps you wind up facing an old friend in the Grandmaster's Contest of Champions!
③ Chitauri Assault → Time to take down hordes and hordes of alien goons! Maybe they brought their space whales, too. They're bringing the party to you!
④ In Pursuit → Your enemies are fleeing and it's up to you to pursue them and bring them to justice!
⑤ Heist → Time to steal that invaluable vibranium shipment before the bad guys do. You'll need all your best covert stealth skills to pull this one off.
⑥ Training → Power up the Danger Room and throw yourself and a partner into a training scenario of your choice! Just try to be careful in there. It is called the Danger Room, after all!

ANGST

① Fallout → Heroism exacts a price, and it is often personal in nature. How do you cope with the fallout of your latest conflict? Was victory worth the price you paid? Or worse, did you lose?
② Injury/Illness → Even for the strongest of heroes, the battlefield can be tough. How's that broken arm healing up? That serious road rash? Or are you the one providing healing and comfort to one in need?

[ there it is again: the slightest movement, suggestive of a smile, which she immediately tamps and curbs. it's just -- to hear him drive his inquiry straight to the heart of this miracle (how are you here?) reminds her why she'd kept so much faith in him, once upon time.

and why she feels that faith renewed.

steve takes a seat and peggy stays standing where she is -- petty, perhaps, in how grateful she feels for that extra bit of height in such a vulnerable moment. that slim and superficial advantage helps her measure out a beat, and then another, so that she doesn't rush into answering him too quickly. as if (maybe) there might be a sin in seeming too eager.

peggy clears her throat. bless him, she thinks, for not asking why she's here. ]

Excellent question. [ and it is -- barring, perhaps, the fact that it's got a multitude of answers. ] Brighter minds than mine are still trying to work out the science. I think the only one thing that's been agreed upon is that I absolutely shouldn't be here.

[ but she can't quite bring herself to regret the risk to history and timeline. so she takes a step, sighs out a measure of tension, and tries to get a better read on his eyes. ]

Then again -- the same could be said for you.

[ He smiles up at her, so exactly like the Peggy he remembers, no nonsense matter of fact. It takes everything he has to hold himself back from taking her into his arms. ]

I guess it could. But I’m assuming we both got here by different means. I didn’t know we had time travel back in the 40s.

[ He knows she’ll explain, eventually as much as she can, so he’ll play along for now. ]

[ tenses are an issue, clearly, because she doesn't think to change hers. peggy does experience a momentary flicker of uncertainty -- she considers a correction -- but ultimately the diversion doesn't feel worth it. ]

I suppose it's less like travelling through time and more like getting lost in it. [ a puff of her cheeks. if she's going to have to explain it, then at least she's explaining it to another layperson. ] All thanks to a bit of rather dangerous interdimensional radiation.

[ she takes just one step closer to where he sits. progress. ]

At least, that's the current theory.

Inter dimensional radiation explains why you’re here in 2018, but not why you’re here, in what is supposed to be a secret location. Nor how you knew I would be here.

well. from how she's been brought up to speed, she's not certain she should even mention shield. but that little team had gotten her this far. and she's damned grateful.

so -- reaching for his hand -- she tries to skip the part where she's been asked to show her credentials. ]

Steve. Do you trust me?

[ it's not said with ego or assumption. but hope. ]

[ Well that’s just unfair. Trust is complicated when you’re on the run and wanted by multiple governments. Had she asked him this question seventy years ago he wouldn’t have hesitated. But he was naive then- as loathe as he is to admit that even to himself. Now- in this world? That’s a harder question to answer. ]

It doesn’t matter if I trust you or not if I don’t trust the people who sent you here.

For what it's worth, [ she answers quick and clear, ] I'm not convinced I trust them either.

[ not because she imagines them to be duplicitous. rather, she fears this underground shield might be too idealistic. too hopeful. too expectant that they might pull steve rogers in from the cold and fix whatever rift was made. ]

Which is why I'd suggest you and I make an effort to find another safehouse. Preferably one safer than this one.
